ABOUT

STRAUS LEGAL RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

We are a boutique firm offering high-level legal research and analysis services to small law firms and solo practitioner offices that may not have the time or in-house staff to accomplish this critical component of practice.  We work closely with clients in a variety of roles, ranging from in-depth research of a particular legal issue for a discrete purpose (such as the drafting of a motion, internal memorandum of law, or appellate brief) to the provision of long-term research and analytic support over the life of a case.  We provide objective legal research findings as well as sophisticated analysis of case law and statutes for purposes of supporting legal argument.  We also assist in the drafting of legal memoranda as it relates to the scope of our research and analysis.  We can tailor the scope of our engagement according to the needs of our clients, taking costs and budgetary considerations into account.

Dora Straus is the firm's principal.  She has over fourteen years of experience as a litigator in New York City, during which time she honed her skills in the art of legal research and analysis.  Please click on "Dora Straus" to learn more about Ms. Straus' background and areas of practice.  Please contact us to discuss how we may be of assistance in your business or practice.

DORA STRAUS

After graduating from New York University School of Law in 1999, Dora Straus worked as a litigator for a prestigious New York City law firm.  For over fourteen years, her areas of practice included complex commercial litigation; international arbitration and litigation; white collar criminal defense; and government regulatory investigations.  Her substantive areas of expertise include contract law; securities fraud and federal securities law; trademark law; insurance defense; civil foreiture; federal RICO laws; federal habeas corpus; international anti-terrorism treaties and legislation; the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act; the Alien Tort Claims Act; and the Federal Arbitration Act.

In her practice, Ms. Straus handled all aspects of litigation practice and procedure in federal and state courts, ranging from discovery and depositions to pre-trial motion practice, trial and appeal.  Ms. Straus routinely drafted motion papers and memoranda of law, as well as appellate briefs.  Throughout her tenure as a practicing attorney, Ms. Straus consistently conducted her own legal research and analysis, always with the understanding that leaving no stone unturned in case law and statutory interpretation is at the core of all winning legal argument, be it in oral or written form.  At her law firm, Ms. Straus was recognized and valued for her sharpened legal research skills and was yearly assigned to train all incoming associates in the art of legal research and analysis.

Ms. Straus left the practice of law in January of 2014.  She now heads Straus Legal Research and Analysis, which provides outside legal research and analytical support to small firms, solo practictioners or companies which may not have the time or in-house staff to accomplish this critical aspect of practice.  Ms. Straus does not serve as counsel or as co-counsel to any firm, nor does she act as an attorney to any client in court or outside of court.  Ms. Straus' sole role is to provide research and analytic support services to attorneys or companies who may need extra assistance in this arena.

Ms. Straus is admitted to practice in New York State.
